It’s Nurse’s Week and we’re excited to celebrate! This year is extra special considering our caregivers are finally getting back to normalcy and have a chance to enjoy the day with us.
Because we usually provide the uniform for the caregiver, we thought we would recognize the person wearing it. Our healthcare heroes are so much more than just accommodating and attentive, they are passionate and courageous, not to mention smart and well-rounded. So well-rounded, in fact, that nursing doesn’t even encompass all that they do.
It’s only fitting that during Nurse’s Week we highlight the professionals that wear scrubs outside of nursing as well. Our dental hygienists, pharmacy technicians, occupational therapists and additional caregivers deserve some love too! After all, nurses and other healthcare specialists eventually end up working together to provide all the care that we need anyways.
Alissa Tibbs, a Registered Dental Assistant, loves pairing a notch or v-neck scrub top with a jogger or slim fit scrub pant. Her job requires her to wear black, but she likes to find variety in her favorite brands. She currently loves Urbane, Grey’s Anatomy, Healing Hands, Beyond scrubs, and Heart Soul. She says, “Putting on a great pair of scrubs makes me feel like I can conquer the whole day! It sets the whole day!”

And we agree! Wearing that perfect scrub set can set the tone for your whole day. We’ve all heard that superheroes wear capes, well, healthcare heroes wear scrubs, and an ideal set is what inspires them to make a difference each day.
Cassie Manzello, a Dental Hygienist, likes to pair a one-pocket top with a pair of joggers for her go-to uniform. She loves pastels and bright colors for her favorite brands such as Grey’s Anatomy, Healing Hands, Cherokee, and Med Couture. She says, “Putting on scrubs means so much more than getting up for work every day to just go and clean teeth, it means I get to build relationships with my patients and hear about their lives and be their therapy for an hour or two while they are in my dental chair.”

As we’ve previously stated, our heroes wear many hats. But if there is one thing that they all have in common it is their willingness to listen and be the ones brave enough to enhance another’s sense of wellbeing.
Jaclyn Schumacher, an Occupational Therapist, thinks so to! She says, “For a few hours a day you put on a new hat so you can give your all to improve others’ lives so the world can find itself a little closer to peace and happiness. It’s sometimes the messiest and most difficult uniform to put on, but you never take it off at the end of the day thinking I made the world a worse place. I feel like a silent superhero when I put my scrubs on.”

A silent superhero sounds about right, but we’re celebrating our caregivers out loud this time of year! Healthcare is certainly a very stressful job and professionals must work under a great deal of pressure. The overall mental strain of providing care can really take a toll, sometimes an amazing set of scrubs just isn’t enough.
Complementing the nurses in your life can go a long way. Recognizing the sacrifices, they make and the amount of courage they possess to do their jobs will really do a lot to make them feel seen and give them the certainty to keep working when times get tough.
Ashley Ebia, a nursing student, certainly thinks so. She says, “It makes me feel good and confident about myself! And I feel like having that confidence is huge in motivating me to make a difference!”
